3 Takeaways From Ducks’ Last-Minute Win Over Penguins
October 31, 2023 by Jordan Reinhardt
Last night’s game (Oct. 31) presented the Anaheim Ducks with a great opportunity to extend their win streak to four against a vulnerable and inconsistent Pittsburgh Penguins team. It may not have been pretty, and it took 59 minutes and 47 seconds to get it done, but the Ducks secured the victory in emphatic fashion with a late shorthanded goal by Mason McTavish.
With the win, the Ducks finished their first East Coast road swing of the season a perfect 4-0. In those four games, they scored 18 goals, and contained some of the best talent in the NHL just enough to produce wins in each contest. The Ducks should feel great about themselves right now. The first calendar month of the season has concluded, and they are 5-4. Let’s look at some positive, negative, and neutral takeaways from the game.
Ducks Gameday Preview: Pittsburgh Penguins – 10/30/23
October 30, 2023 by Jordan Reinhardt
The Anaheim Ducks have found themselves at a level four wins and losses apiece on the season so far after rattling off three straight victories over the Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins, and Philadelphia Flyers. During the streak, they’ve managed 14 goals, have found some consistency on the penalty kill, gotten timely goaltending, and have put together complete games on both sides of the puck. The win streak helped the Ducks avoid an early-season descent in the Western Conference standings, and while it’s still early, they find themselves in the thick of things in the Pacific Division.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are next. The old guard of the Penguins – Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang – remain a formidable trio. Offseason additions Reilly Smith and Erik Karlsson make this team even more dangerous. Let’s preview the matchup at PPG Paints Arena tonight (Oct. 30) by looking at storylines, personnel, and tactics.
3 Takeaways From Ducks’ Dominant Win Over Flyers
October 29, 2023 by Jordan Reinhardt
Well, fool me once. Shame on me. After a four-goal outing and late-game heroics in a comeback win over the Boston Bruins a few days ago, the Anaheim Ducks upped the ante offensively with a seven-goal thrashing of the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center last night (Oct. 28). So much for me thinking they didn’t have the juice offensively.
Everybody got involved in the scoring. Frank Vatrano recorded another hat trick. Ryan Strome collected another three points in his own torrid start to the season. Trevor Zegras and Adam Henrique each got on the board for the first time. The young Ducks are rolling. Let’s look at some positive takeaways from their third win in a row.
