Devils Hunting for a Top-4 Defenseman This Offseason
June 27, 2024 by Josh Reinitz
Entering the offseason, the New Jersey Devils’ needs seemed clear – head coach, goalie, snarl, and middle-six winger, roughly in that order. General manager Tom Fitzgerald has filled the first two needs by hiring Sheldon Keefe and trading for Jacob Markstrom. Now he heads into a four-day span that will include the NHL Draft and the opening of free agency with assets and cap space to spend, reportedly seeking a top-six forward, a bottom-six forward, a top-four defenseman, and a bottom-pair defenseman. The only surprise on that list is the organizational belief that it needs to acquire a top-four defenseman. Fortunately, there are several available options.
Devils and Brett Pesce Could Be a Fit in Free Agency
June 26, 2024 by Erica Rosenbaum
The New Jersey Devils addressed their biggest offseason need when they acquired goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames. Wwith the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and free agency coming up, General Manager Tom Fitzgerald will look to improve the rest of the roster. One name that is being linked to the Devils is defenseman Brett Pesce.

Devils Can Maximize Assets by Trading Back in the Draft
June 25, 2024 by Josh Reinitz
The New Jersey Devils are poised to make the 10th overall selection in Friday’s NHL Draft. After that pick, they take a round off and have two picks in the third round. The Devils’ once-vaunted prospect pool has tumbled down the rankings due mainly to players matriculating out of the development stage and into the NHL. A pool that once had Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Alexander Holtz, Shakir Mukhamadullin, and Dawson Mercer has now thinned at the top and could use some restocking to ensure the Devils will have reinforcements as they progress through their window of contention.
Devils’ Draft Plans Impacted by Rutger McGroarty’s Trade Availability
June 23, 2024 by Josh Reinitz
The 2024 NHL Draft is less than a week away, yet uncertainty shrouds the New Jersey Devils’ plans for the 10th overall pick. General manager Tom Fitzgerald has not been shy about declaring that the pick is available for trade if the price is right. On the other hand, the Devils’ once elite prospect pool has diminished through the promotion of players like Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Alex Holtz, and Dawson Mercer, as well as the trades of Graeme Clarke and Shakir Mukhamadullin. Other than Seamus Casey, the most highly touted Devils prospects have not yet come to play in North America.
Devils Can Get a Draft Steal by Taking Beckett Sennecke 10th Overall
June 22, 2024 by Daniel Amoia
We’re officially inside of a week until the 2024 NHL Draft kicks off at The Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. The New Jersey Devils possess the 10th overall pick and have the chance to make a decision that will propel them to the next level.
Devils and Golden Knights Are Perfect Trade Partners
June 22, 2024 by JP Gambatese
There’s no two ways around it — the Vegas Golden Knights are in all sorts of trouble with the salary cap. Entering the off-season, they’ve got just south of $900,000 in cap space with 20 players under contract, not including Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Marchessault, who I’m sure is a top priority for Vegas before July 1. With that in mind, they’ll almost certainly lose several important pieces of their core to free agency, like William Carrier, Anthony Mantha, and Chandler Stephenson. Even after that, they’ll need to move some key pieces with significant cap hits in order to combat the impending cap catastrophe that lies around the corner.
