Flyers Gameday Preview: Crash the Soaring Jets
The Philadelphia Flyers, riding a two-game winning streak, visit the 28-9-4 Winnipeg Jets.
January 13, 2024 by Justin Giampietro (Premium THW Substack content)
Welcome to THW Philadelphia Flyers Keys to Victory, where we preview every single game by establishing how the Flyers can win a certain matchup. For every contest, we look at some storylines for the Flyers and their opponent alike to try to find ways the Orange and Black can find themselves in the win column.
Now on to some keys to a Flyers win…
Win Top-Six Scoring Battle
The Jets have the best record in the NHL entering this match, but they have some injuries up front. Top-six forwards Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele could both be out for this game, and that’s a big blow to Winnipeg’s top six if that ends up being the case. They’ve managed exceptionally well without Connor over their last dozen or so contests, but Scheifele has been one of their best offensive producers. If he can’t play, that leaves a big hole on their first line and gives the Flyers an advantage.
Flyers: Depth Free-Agent Forwards to Target in 2024
January 13, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
It is unclear where the Philadelphia Flyers will be entering their 2023-24 offseason in terms of whether they are coming off a playoff berth or not, but they will likely be both in the market to sign players of the free agent class yet not spend too much money.
Fortunately, several great candidates have played pretty well in in-depth roles this season — that might not be shown on their next paycheck, which is good news for a Philadelphia team that wants to maximize cap space. Which unrestricted free agents (UFAs) should the Flyers consider offering a contract if they make it to free agency?

On Jan. 12, the Philadelphia Flyers capped off a two-goal comeback against the Minnesota Wild in overtime with a 4-3 win on the road. With Joel Farabee scoring the dagger, the Flyers moved to a 22-14-6 record on the season and got their second consecutive victory. What were some takeaways?
Claude Giroux: Hall of Fame Worthy?

Thirteen members of the Hockey Hall of Fame (HHoF) have played for the Philadelphia Flyers at some point during their careers. This list includes legends like Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, and Bill Barber. Does one more former Flyers legend belong on the list someday? There is a lot of disagreement regarding Claude Giroux’s Hall of Fame prospects.
Flyers Should Consider Trading Owen Tippett
January 12, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
For the Philadelphia Flyers this season, they’ve scored just 2.83 goals per game, which ranks in the bottom 20 in the NHL. Considering forward Owen Tippett’s shot-heavy nature, trading him might not come easy for the Orange and Black. With that being said, he is in the last season of his contract and likely due for some big money. Since the Flyers are still in a rebuild, they should consider trading him instead of giving him a big extension.
Oilers Should Acquire Flyers Defenceman Nick Seeler
January 10, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers have turned their season around after their terrible start to the 2023-24 campaign and have found themselves in a solid position as they fight their way back up the Pacific Division standings. With the addition of Kris Knoblauch seemingly turning the Oilers’ season around after the team chose to fire Jay Woodcroft, they have found themselves being considered Stanley Cup contenders again. While they’ve been strong, they still have some small holes to fill and one of them is their defensive depth. One name they should look at is Philadelphia Flyers’ defenceman Nick Seeler.
