It’s no secret that the Arizona Coyotes have had a colorful past when it comes to the owners of the team. They have had a variety of owners from the best player to ever play in the NHL to the league itself. In just almost 30 years, it’s been an interesting path to get to the point where the franchise is today involving several sets of owners. From Phoenix to the endless cities rumored to be relocation options for the team, it’s been certainly a ride for the Coyotes. However, it all starts up north in Winnipeg.

In early December, when the Arizona Coyotes defeated the Washington Capitals 6-0, it was the first time a franchise had beaten the previous five Stanley Cup champions consecutively. The growth general manager Bill Armstrong talked about at the beginning of the season was evident, and everyone was taking massive leaps forward. At this point in time, fans speculated what a playoff atmosphere would look like at Mullett Arena, which had been drawing in win after win. Fast forward to Feb. 20, and the Coyotes have lost ten straight games and have the sixth-best odds at drafting first overall or their chance at Boston University center Macklin Celebrini.
Coyotes Losing Streak Hits Double Digits With Loss to Oilers

Heading into the third period, there was hope at Mullett Arena that the Arizona Coyotes might end their long losing skid with a 3-2 lead. The team then proceeded to blow their lead, giving up four straight goals, and eventually lost 6-3 to the Edmonton Oilers. There’s only so much a person can say with the losing streak increasing more and more. Here are the takeaways from Monday afternoon.

When the Arizona Coyotes beat the previous five Stanley Cup champions, nothing seemed to stop them. Everyone played a pivotal role in the success, and then playoff talk slowly crept in. Gradually but surely, people were talking about what the playoffs would look like at Mullett Arena, let alone how they would square up against some of the best teams in the West. Fast forward to Feb. 16, where the Coyotes have lost seven games in a row, struggling to hold leads and playing poor hockey for the most part.

It seems like just last year people were discussing the Arizona Coyotes‘ playoff push as they seemed destined for a wild card spot. The crazy thing is – that was exactly the case. As the desert dogs approached the end of 2023, they looked poised to make a run, culminating in their first playoff appearance since the 2019-20 season. What began as excitement, has quickly turned sour within the first two months of the new year.
