The Philadelphia Flyers had their four-game winning streak snapped on Feb. 15 with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Falling to a 29-19-7 record, the Flyers are still in a good spot but lost a bit of a frustrating one. They played well early but goals in quick succession by Auston Matthews did them in. Often, it’s not the teams that make the biggest trades at the trade deadline, but the right ones. Third-line, two-way forwards like Antoine Vermette (Chicago Blackhawks, 2015), Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow (Tampa Bay Lightning, 2021) and Artturi Lehkonen (Colorado Avalanche, 2022) were key cogs to Stanley Cup-winning teams, even though they weren’t the biggest names on the market.

On Feb. 14, the Philadelphia Flyers announced they’d be filling their two-season vacancy at the captain spot after forward Claude Giroux departed in 2021-22. Their 20th captain was a long-time teammate of his, Sean Couturier.

It’s not easy to keep up an incredible pace over 82 games, but what about when that’s narrowed down a bit? The Philadelphia Flyers have had quite a few candidates since those stats could be accessed more easily, spanning from the 2007-08 season to today.
