Revisiting the Capitals Getting Sergei Gonchar and Brendan Witt
July 18, 2024 by Nathan Moser
The Washington Capitals have been fortunate in their history to have many solid defensemen play for the organization. They had Kevin Hatcher, Larry Murphy, and Rod Langway during the earlier parts of their history. One of the best blueliners they ever drafted, though, was Scott Stevens. He was selected with the fifth-overall pick in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and made an immediate impact when he joined the team for the 1982-83 season.
Capitals’ Trevor van Riemsdyk Continues Representing Family Name Well

When the 2007 NHL Entry Draft was underway, the top two picks were Patrick Kane to the Chicago Blackhawks and James van Riemsdyk to the Philadelphia Flyers. James van Riemsdyk became a solid NHL winger between two stints in Philadelphia and other tenures with the Toronto Maple Leafs and, most recently, the Boston Bruins. James, currently a free agent, has been a solid complementary scorer for the teams he has played on. In 1,011 regular-season games, he accrued 311 goals and 318 assists for 629 points. He also has 36 playoff points in 82 games (21 goals and 15 assists). The 35-year-old has had a stellar career in the league. However, he is not the only one in the family who has been significant in the NHL.

Washington Capitals’ Forgotten Ones
May 16, 2024 by Nathan Moser
When the hockey world thinks about the Washington Capitals, there are obvious names that come up. If talking about the present or recent history, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, TJ Oshie, and Braden Holtby will come to mind. If talking about the more-distant past, some players mentioned would be Peter Bondra, Kevin Hatcher, Sergei Gonchar, Dale Hunter, and others. With those who are remembered for their time in Washington, there are those who are also forgotten. Maybe they only played one season for the club, or they are more remembered for their time on other teams. There are many who can fit this bill in Caps history, but here are five notable ones.
