Washington Capitals 2024 Draft Target: Beckett Sennecke
June 8, 2024 by Nathan Moser
A couple of the forward possibilities for the Washington Capitals in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft are Berkly Catton of the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League and Michael Hage of the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League. Another potential forward that could be available when the Caps pick 17th overall is Beckett Sennecke, who plays for the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). It will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft.

Capitals Draft History: Selecting Robert Picard
June 8, 2024 by Nathan Moser
The Washington Capitals have held the third overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft only once in their franchise’s history. It was back during the 1977 Draft. After center Dale McCourt went first overall to the Detroit Red Wings and defender Barry Beck was chosen by the Colorado Rockies, the Caps chose defenseman Robert Picard. Picard had previously played for the Montreal Juniors in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). At this point, the Caps were trying to draft their way into becoming a contender in the NHL. Before selecting Picard, the Caps had the first overall selection for the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft, where they picked blueliner Rick Green. This was after already having the first overall pick in 1974 when they selected defenseman Greg Joly, too. Capitals management hoped that, in Picard, they would have someone who could help take command of the team from the backend and be a core piece to the puzzle in building a Stanley Cup-contending roster in Washington.
Forgotten Washington Capitals: Phil Housley
June 7, 2024 by Nathan Moser
When it comes to statistically the best defensemen in NHL history in points, the first name is Ray Bourque, who played for the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche. He finished with 410 goals and 1,169 assists for 1,579 points in 1,612 games. Following Bourque is Paul Coffey with 1,531 points, and in third place, is Al MacInnis with 1,274 points. Then, fourth on the list is Phil Housley, who accrued 1,232 points in a span of 1,495 games. He traveled around and played for eight teams during his career, including the Washington Capitals. His time in D.C. was not long, and many may not remember that he suited up for the organization, but he is an influential defenseman overall and was a leader and mentor for many by being an example on the ice.
