Washington Capitals 2024 Draft Target: Igor Chernyshov
June 27, 2024 by Nathan Moser
When diving specifically into the forward options for the Washington Capitals with the 17th selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, there are a few wingers who stand out. Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård (who played last season on the Mora IK J20 and HockeyAllsvenskan teams) are two that come to mind for many people in the hockey world. Another winger who Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan and his scouts may potentially go with is Igor Chernyshov of MHK Dynamo Moskva of the MHL. He may be available around when Washington picks and he could potentially bring a lot to the table.
Washington Capitals 2024 Draft Target: Jett Luchanko
June 26, 2024 by Nathan Moser
Among the forwards who the Washington Capitals could pick at 17th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Jett Luchanko has worked his way into the conversation. If not a first-round selection, he would be a great addition to any team that takes him in the second round (the Capitals have the Vegas Golden Knights’ second-round selection that is 52nd overall from the Anthony Mantha trade back in March). Luchanko was ranked 19th on Bob McKenzie’s final draft rankings for TSN, right around where Washington currently sits in the first round. Either way, the Capitals should have him on their radar.

Capitals Should Consider Eeli Tolvanen in Free Agency
June 25, 2024 by Nathan Moser
The Washington Capitals started the offseason with a big trade, sending goalie Darcy Kuemper to the Los Angeles Kings and receiving forward Pierre-Luc Dubois in return. As a team that did not produce enough offense last season, Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan and his staff are looking for ways to ramp up more goal-scoring. One player they could look into during the 2024 free agency period is winger Eeli Tolvanen, who spent the 2023-24 season with the Seattle Kraken.
Capitals Unveil 50th Anniversary Celebration Plans
June 24, 2024 by Nathan Moser
It started with players like Greg Joly in 1974-75 and has led up to the current era with players like Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson. The Washington Capitals will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary in the NHL the upcoming 2024-25 season. The franchise unveiled the anniversary patches and logos they will wear to commemorate the milestone. The organization also created a microsite dedicated specifically to the anniversary. On the Capitals official site, the article Capitals Launch 50th Anniversary Campaign and Unveil Commemorative Logo said, “As part of the celebration, the team has launched a special 50th anniversary microsite at washcaps.com/Caps50th, offering exclusive content related to the Capitals. Caps fans are encouraged to sign up at the microsite to stay updated on all upcoming planned anniversary initiatives.”
Washington Capitals 2024 Draft Target: Stian Solberg
June 23, 2024 by Nathan Moser
Soon enough, Washington Capitals fans will know who they will be taking with the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. They could draft a few different positions in that spot. If they go defense, a couple of names to consider include Adam Jiricek and Carter Yakemchuk. Another blueliner who is getting plenty of attention ahead of the draft is Stian Solberg, who has grown his game in the Vålerenga program for the last few seasons. He would be another potentially solid draft option should general manager Brian MacLellan call his name on June 28.
Washington Capitals’ History of Drafting 5th Overall
June 22, 2024 by Nathan Moser
The fifth overall pick in an NHL Entry Draft has the potential to have a star available to whatever team selects at that spot. Sometimes the player picked ends up being one of the best talents in the entire draft. In fact, writer Ryan Szporer discussed in his piece “Canadiens’ Fifth-Overall Pick Has Been Better Than First Before,” about times that fifth overall picks were better than the ones chosen with the first pick. In the case with the Washington Capitals, they have chosen fifth overall in the draft on three occasions. Like with the times they held first and fourth overall, it is a bit of a mixed bag of results. No player was a bust in the fifth slot. All three players chosen by the Capitals played some time for the organization. How much impact they had while in D.C. is what varies between each player.
