Canucks’ Season Reaches the End of the Road in Game 7
May 21, 2024 by Edgar Chaput
As Sportsnet’s host Ron MacLean said in the preamble to Monday night’s Game 7 between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks, the great thing about sports is that there is one winner. The worst thing? That there is one winner. Unfortunately for the Canucks and their faithful supporters, that winner was the Oilers, who now march on to play the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final. Vancouver fell 3-2 in a contest that, in some respects, made sense, echoing some of the ups and downs of the series overall. Here’s how Game 7 all went down.
Canucks/Oilers Series Exceeded All of the Hype

There was plenty of hype heading into the second round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks. The last two Canadian teams with the best records in the Pacific Division went at it for a seven-game series. Over their 50-plus year history in the NHL, the Vancouver Canucks have played 12 Game 7s and will be going for (hopefully) lucky 13 tonight when they take on the Edmonton Oilers for the right to face the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final. The last time a Game 7 was played in Vancouver was back in 2011 when the Boston Bruins beat the Henrik Sedin-led Canucks 4-1 and stole the Stanley Cup from their grasps.

Canucks: 3 Most Notable Indigenous Players

The Vancouver Canucks unveiled their special events schedule for the first half of the season and they will once again host a “First Nations Celebration Night”, this time in December rather than March like they did last season. It will occur on Dec. 5 versus the New Jersey Devils, but the Canucks won’t be allowed to wear their usual themed jerseys in warmups since the NHL banned them in the offseason. Last season, they wore some pretty interesting threads before they honoured the late Gino Odjick in a pre-game ceremony.
