Canucks Corner: Matt's Latest Musings on What's Happening With the Franchise
Soucy suspension, the Arty Party continues, Zadorov making a strong case for a long-term contract, Podkolzin, and more.

Soucy Suspended 1 Game After Crosscheck to McDavid’s Head, Will Miss Game 4
The Canucks will be without Carson Soucy for Game 4 as he was handed a one-game suspension for his crosscheck on Connor McDavid at the end of Game 3. It was an accidental headshot, but Soucy probably shouldn’t have been cross-checking him in the first place. As a result, the suspension is warranted.
However, while I agree with the suspension, if the roles were reversed and it was McDavid doing the cross-checking, would the NHL have handed down the same discipline? It’s a valid question considering McDavid got away with a blatant high-stick that drew blood on captain Quinn Hughes in Game 2. He also viciously slashed Soucy before said crosscheck with no consequences.
There were also plenty of examples in Game 3 where the Department of Player Safety could have handed down supplemental discipline to Oilers players. Yet, the only announcements yesterday were a suspension to Soucy and a maximum fine of $5,000 to Nikita Zadorov for contributing to the headshot that McDavid received. So, do the superstars get special treatment? It sure seems so, especially after these last two games.
