Canucks Corner: Matt's Latest Musings on What's Happening With the Franchise
Electric atmosphere in Rogers Arena for Game 1, setting the tone with physicality and drama, third line steps up...again, and more.
From signings, trades, prospects, injury and lineup news, and everything in between, here are my latest musings on the team we all love, cheer on, and get frustrated by on a nightly basis.
Rogers Arena Was Rocking For Game 1
The playoffs finally returned to Rogers Arena on Sunday, and what a sight it was. The white towels were waving, the atmosphere was electric and credit to the fans in attendance, you amped the players up and made them feel lucky to be wearing the Orca.
“Goosebumps,” Lindholm said.
“My head was on a different planet tonight,” Miller said. “That atmosphere was incredible. I mean, when we came out there, that was a special moment I'll always remember. And I guarantee you they (playoff rookies) always will, too…When I stepped out on the ice before puck drop, I took a moment, looked at the fans. It was a pretty special moment. I know they've been waiting for this for a while.”
Canucks Nation has waited nine long years for this moment, and they were ready to show this current roster what playoff hockey is like in Vancouver. None of them had experienced it, and while they were preparing for the electricity and the noise, I don’t think they were fully aware of the magnitude it was going to be. Now they do, and I’m sure it will fuel them for the rest of the playoffs - hopefully until captain Quinn Hughes hoists the Stanley Cup over his head sometime in June.
“The building was crazy,” Joshua said. “You think you know what to expect until you get out there and you don't. The fans were behind us all night and it was nice to pull through for them.”
