Canadiens’ 2025 Draft Plans Could Be Affected by Jacob Markstrom Trade
June 20, 2024 by Trege Wilson
With the Stanley Cup Final taking too long and the 2024 NHL Entry Draft just a week away, NHL general managers (GMs) have decided to start the offseason early. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Kings traded Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper, and the New Jersey Devils acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames. The first move has no bearing on the Montreal Canadiens, except proving they dodged a massive bullet. The second trade, however, might have significant consequences for the Canadiens in next year’s draft.
Canadiens’ Kent Hughes Dodged a Bullet Refusing to Overpay Dubois
June 20, 2024 by Karine Hains
Rewind to mid-June last year, Pierre-Luc Dubois was the talk of the town. Pat Brisson, his agent, had told the media his client would like to play for the Montreal Canadiens. Let’s take a look at the potential reasons for which Kent Hughes wisely passed on the player.

Canadiens’ Fifth-Overall Pick Has Been Better Than First Before
June 20, 2024 by Ryan Szporer
Maybe it isn’t the year to make bold predictions that the Montreal Canadiens will make out like bandits at No. 5 overall at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. They are no doubt in great position to pick a top talent. However, with a projected-to-be-elite player like Macklin Celebrini set to go first to the San Jose Sharks, the Canadiens likely won’t end up with the player of this draft class, like for example at the 1965 NHL Amateur Draft, when they took defenseman Pierre Bouchard (son of Hall of Famer Emile).
