Buying or Selling the Latest Batch of NHL Rumors
A few rumors are circulating around the NHL, should we buy or sell on these things actually happening?
It’s easy to float out a rumor. When NHL teams start to struggle or injuries take place, it makes sense that “insiders” and reporters might come up with some wild theories on what might take place or where certain players might wind up.
In many cases, these rumors are started by trusted sources who actually have inside knowledge on what GMs and teams might be talking about. In other cases, the speculation is a wild stab in the dark at something that makes little sense at all.
Let’s go through some of the more interesting rumors and decide if we should “buy” or “sell.”
Sidney Crosby to the Nashville Predators (Kevin Weekes)
Admittedly, when Weekes brought up the idea of Crosby to the Nashville Predators, he joked he was throwing this one out there into the hockey world to get a sense of the reaction. However, after the initial surprise of the suggestion, he took a more serious pivot and said he didn’t see a better fit in the NHL.
He repeated a few times that the Predators need a center and a left-shot one. He also argued the organization had committed ownership and a GM willing to go for it. After the team spent a ton of money in the offseason and the results have been lackluster, if things really fall apart in Pittsburgh, how long will it take before Crosby accepts that a move might be in his future?
Even Elliotte Friedman, who doubted Crosby would be traded, admitted that if reality set in, there was a chance Crosby might be open to a change of scenery.
Sell:
This one just doesn’t make sense after everything Crosby has done this year to show he’s committed to the Penguins. He signed an extension when he knew the team wasn’t going to be that good. And, even if he were to accept a trade, going to Nashville feels like a long shot considering they aren’t a lock for the playoffs.
Taylor Hall Might Eventually Seek Trade from the Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks have made an interesting decision this weekend, making Taylor Hall a healthy scratch for their game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Blackhawks got beaten handily and according to Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, head coach Luke Richardson has no intentions of putting Hall back in for a while.
Richardson cited Hall's ongoing struggles, including a 10-game goal drought and his ice time was down to just 13:23 in his last game against the Seattle Kraken.
