Bruins’ Georgii Merkulov Named AHL Player of the Month
January 2, 2024 by Brandon Share-Cohen
Georgii Merkulov has been named the AHL Player of the Month for December. The 23-year-old forward played in 12 games for the Providence Bruins in December, scoring 10 goals and 18 points. This excellent month earned him a call-up to the NHL to play with the Boston Bruins, a stint that has yielded two NHL games thus far for Merkulov.
Jake DeBrusk May Be Bruins’ Best Trade Chip
January 2, 2024 by Drew Johnson
I’ll preface this by saying, let’s hope I’m wrong, and Jake DeBrusk goes on to win multiple Stanley Cups with the Boston Bruins. I hope his number is retired, he’s inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and this article becomes a stain on my portfolio.
With that said, Jake DeBrusk’s time with the Bruins could be coming to an end. Despite a resurgence to end the calendar year, No. 74 is likely Boston’s greatest trade chip heading into the trade deadline.
Bruins DeBrusk & Frederic Providing Post-Holiday Break Spark
January 2, 2024 by Scott Roche
In the two-plus weeks leading into the mandated three-day holiday break, things were not going well for the Boston Bruins. They struggled to hold third-period leads, they were struggling to put the puck into the net and their special teams which were a strong point at the beginning of the season were slipping. Then came the three-day and in reality, it couldn’t have come at a better time for second-year coach Jim Montgomery and his team.
Two players that were struggling and not looking great were Jake DeBrusk, who is in a big contract year, and third-line forward Trent Frederic, who is coming off a pay raise over the summer that saw him ink a two-year, $4.6 million contract. Since the Bruins returned to the ice on Dec. 27 against the Buffalo Sabres in Western New York, both players have provided the Black and Gold with a much-needed spark.
