January 2, 2023 by Ethan Carter (Premium THW Substack Content)
It’s been a wild ride through 36 games for the St. Louis Blues this season. They’ve shown the same inconsistency as last season and head coach Craig Berube paid the price after being fired on Dec. 14. He was replaced by Springfield Thunderbirds head coach Drew Bannister, who has done a fine job in the interim so far.
Today, I am going to take a look at what the Blues have looked like through 36 games and what could come next for the club. Let’s get into it.
Inconsistency Leads to Middling Record
The Blues are 18-17-1 as the New Year rolls around. They are sixth in the Central Division and in the Wild Card mix with the lack of depth in the Pacific Division. Under interim head coach Bannister, they are 5-3-0 after losing two straight to the Colorado Avalanche and Pittsburgh Penguins before the calendar turned to 2024.
Blues’ Top 3 Performers from December

The St. Louis Blues enter the New Year with a record of 18-17-1 and a brutal schedule in front of them. In December, the club managed to go 6-8-0 with head coach Craig Berube getting fired in the middle of the month. Under the guidance of interim head coach Drew Bannister in December, the Blues went 5-3-0. Despite this, the month of January will be an important one with the schedule ahead. With that said, let’s get into the Blues’ top three performers from December.

Some of the top three Blues prospects that are highlighted in this year’s tournament are Jimmy Snuggerud (USA), Dalibor Dvorsky (Slovakia), and Otto Stenberg (Sweden). The WJC is also a chance for some upcoming players to showcase themselves before the NHL Draft. This could be a chance for the Blues to consider serious options in the top 10 category. Many of the players listed here were also top 10 or first-round picks in the draft for the Blues or other NHL teams. Let’s take a look at who those players were.
