Blues’ Snuggerud to Get NHL Shot After 2024 WJC Performance
January 10, 2024 by Anthony Testaguzza
Jimmy Snuggerud played fantastic at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), and St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong is impressed. Snuggerud finished the 2024 WJC with eight points and was barely within the top 15 in points in the tournament. However, he put up his best performance at the 2023 WJC, where he finished with 13 points, which was within the top 3 players in points that tournament.
In an interview with The Hockey News, Armstrong mentioned that Snuggerud would get “every opportunity to make the jump right now.” Despite that, he still has to finish his season with the University of Minnesota to make his NHL debut. He could make a big decision to leave college and make his way onto the Blues roster as soon as possible, but that is very unlikely.
Brayden Schenn Remains Right Choice for Blues Captain
January 9, 2024 by Ethan Carter
In his first season as the St. Louis Blues captain, Brayden Schenn has had numerous on-ice struggles. By following players like Alex Pietrangelo and Ryan O’Reilly, the pressure has always been high for him as captain. Both Pietrangelo and O’Reilly had different levels of success while captaining the Blues. For Pietraneglo, he won a Stanley Cup in St. Louis and became the first captain in franchise history to do so. O’Reilly led by example as captain and led the club to a second-round playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
For Schenn, he seems like a phenomenal leader and great for the locker room, but he has not been good enough on the ice. Despite the struggles, both former head coach Craig Berube and interim head coach Drew Bannister have kept him as the second or third-line center all season. Let’s dive into the first season as captain for Schenn and why the process needs to be trusted in St. Louis.
