Biggest NHL Storylines Stealing Attention From the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Why are we talking about these storylines instead of the games?
By most accounts, the first round of the NHL playoffs was incredible. There were two series that ended in dramatic fashion, as the Dallas Stars stormed back against the Colorado Avalanche and the Winnipeg Jets scored in the dying seconds and then in overtime to eliminate the St. Louis Blues.
There have been fights, big hits, suspensions, incredible performances, and big plays, yet coaching news, offseason turmoil, and rumored vendettas seem to be stealing a lot of the playoff thunder.
Here are a few of the big storylines that have fans forgetting there’s some outstanding hockey being played.

The Coaching Carousel Continues
The Anaheim Ducks officially hired Joel Quenneville to be the team’s next head coach. That hire will come with obvious pushback for his role in the Kyle Beach allegations during Quenneville’s run with the Chicago Blackhawks, but beyond that, there will be questions about how effective he’ll be in Anaheim.
