Avalanche Should Look At Jeff Skinner if Bought Out
June 25, 2024 by Stefano Rubino
Rumours are circulating that the Buffalo Sabres could buy out Jeff Skinner‘s contract. The 32-year-old winger still has three years remaining with an annual cap hit of $9 million. Many believe he isn’t worth that amount, and given the urgency to start winning, the Sabres might consider taking advantage of the first year of Skinner’s buyout, which would cost very little against the cap. During a press conference on Thursday, Buffalo’s general manager, Kevyn Adams, was vague when asked about a potential Skinner buyout, hinting that the wheels might be in motion.

Avalanche’s Need for Cap Space Could Force Colton Trade
June 25, 2024 by Marko Zlomislic
Rumors are swirling around the Avalanche’s Ross Colton after he made an appearance on an NHL insider’s trade board. Colton was acquired (along with the now-departed Ryan Johansen) last offseason as a potential solution to the team’s long-standing hole at second-line center, a roster spot that has seen a revolving door of candidates since Nazem Kadri left as a free agent following the team’s Stanley Cup win in 2022.
Avalanche Extend Casey Mittelstadt To 3-Year Contract
June 25, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
The Colorado Avalanche have extended Casey Mittelstadt to a 3-year contract, which carries an annual average of $5.75 million and begins in the 2024-25 season. Mittelstadt, 25, had four goals and 10 points in 16 regular season games with Colorado after being acquired by the Buffalo Sabres at the 2024 Trade Deadline for Bowen Byram.
Avalanche 2024 Draft Target: Cole Beaudoin
June 25, 2024 by Ryan Womeldorf
In addition to a few important free-agent decisions, the team also has to deal with whether winger Valeri Nichushkin will ever suit up for them again. With the 24th-overall pick in the NHL Draft, the team needs to stock its cupboard and prepare for the future, which is why center Cole Beaudoin of the Barrie Colts could be the pick.
Lehkonen May Be Avalanche’s Most Important Forward in 2024-25
June 21, 2024 by Kerry Collins
However, the return of those last two forwards is a big question mark hanging over next season. Nobody knows when (or if) either will be back, and how good they’ll be remains an even bigger mystery. That puts a lot of pressure on the depth forwards going into the 2024-25 campaign, and the guy Colorado may have to lean on in those early stages of the season is Artturi Lehkonen. He’s only entering his third full season with the team, but there are few up front that are more important to Colorado than the 28-year-old Finn.
Avalanche need to take care of business and not get sentimental. Trade or buy out Val at any cost. He is a cancer. Gabe ( god bless him) needs to retire and move into management with the Avs. Shore up their depth with the money they save on Val and Gabe. The goal is to win the cup , no time for sentimental decisions.
