The 2024 NHL Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas has now concluded, and the Colorado Avalanche have made their selections that shocked and confused many. They moved back in the draft and added more draft picks for this draft and subsequent years. The Avalanche traded their first-round pick (24th), and in return, they received the 38th and 71st picks in this year’s draft and a second-round pick in next year’s draft from the Utah Hockey Club. MacKinnon’s Latest Awards Help Cement His Place in the Hall of Fame

The 28-year-old center scored 51 goals and added 89 assists, accumulating 140 points throughout the season. This surpassed the previous franchise record of 139 points set by Peter Stastny during the 1981-82 season. With numerous awards and nominations to his name, MacKinnon has amassed an impressive collection of accolades. Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon has won the 2024 Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the most valuable player to his team, voted by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association members. MacKinnon also won the 2024 Ted Lindsay Award, and this is his first time winning either trophy.

However, the return of those last two forwards is a big question mark hanging over next season. Nobody knows when (or if) either will be back, and how good they’ll be remains an even bigger mystery. That puts a lot of pressure on the depth forwards going into the 2024-25 campaign, and the guy Colorado may have to lean on in those early stages of the season is Artturi Lehkonen. He’s only entering his third full season with the team, but there are few up front that are more important to Colorado than the 28-year-old Finn.
