The Blackhawks are entering a should-be busy summer and the work is just beginning, and there are three ways to break it down

Hey, Blackhawks Fans!

As the offseason carries on, I think we are all anxious to find out what the Blackhawks are up to, and we have a glimmer of an idea so far. They gave Alex Vlasic a six-year contract extension, Lukas Reichel a two-year extension, and Brett Seney a one-year, two-way deal. They also made a trade with the New York Islanders on May 24th to move from 20th overall to 18th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft while gaining a higher second-round pick in the process. So, something is going down, but obviously, we will have to wait a bit longer to find out what general manager Kyle Davidson’s plan is.

So, while we continue to patiently wait for more Hawks offseason moves, let’s have some fun. Me and my colleague Gail Kauchak collaborated on an article that described each Blackhawks player in one word. So, I thought we could take it up a notch and do a spin-off of that article but make it about the offseason.

Here are three words to describe the Blackhawks’ offseason plans (so far- could be subject to change.)

Mysterious

We know that Davidson wants the team to make strides next season and stop aiming for the bottom of the standings, so with that, changes will be made. They have $30 million in cap space, but Davidson still seems hesitant to want to overspend on contracts because he wants to be mindful of the salary cap. So, I’m not sitting here expecting that they will sign someone like Jake Guentzel (Carolina Hurricanes), but general managers are professionals at smokescreening and never want to reveal their actual plans. Although Davidson has been pretty blunt with his plans, there is a chance he has some surprises…
