3 Players Who Have Been Surprises So Far This Season
Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, and Alex Ovechkin are just a few of the names that come to mind when NHL fans name stars that come to mind. When their names are at the top of the stats sheet, it’s not a surprise; it’s expected. However, every season, a few players manage to surprise us, and while they aren’t scoring a lot of goals, they are making a difference.
These players are in different positions, on various teams, in multiple places in the standings. A couple are veteran players, while two of them are rookies who have made themselves noticeable despite being rookies. With the league on its 4 Nations Break, it was a perfect time to look at each player, starting with a Columbus Blue Jackets forward.
Werenski’s a Rising Star
The Blue Jackets have had an interesting season thus far, and it appeared they would be heading down the same path of missing the postseason as they have been in the past few years. However, they’ve managed to turn things around, and that’s been through a strong team effort and the play of defenseman Zach Werenski.
After the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau, the team rallied together to support each other, and Werenski stepped up to lead the team alongside Kirill Marchenko and Sean Monahan. Werenski’s put up decent numbers over the seasons, but this season, he’s started to shine, and that includes his presence on Team USA for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
