3 Factors That Will Determine the Arizona Coyotes’ Playoff Fate
December 12 2023, 2023 Cooper Krigbaum
Playoffs? It’s been a spell for Arizona Coyotes fans to say that, but they could creep in this season due to many reasons. The message around the team heading into their Global Series in Melbourne, Australia, was to take a step forward and play meaningful games down the stretch. Thus far, they’ve accomplished that as they sit in the second wild card spot in the Western Conference and have seen a glut of ups and downs throughout the season. They have been winning games without significant pieces due to injury and have found ways to beat Stanley Cup contenders. In that regard, there is hope this could be the season they return. However, they need these factors to go their way to even sniff the playoffs.
Last season, one of the numerous troubles was the lack of secondary scoring. The majority of the time, it was Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, and Barrett Hayton scoring. Playoff teams are spread out. Yes, they have their superstars bearing lots of the workload, but it’s the secondary scoring that helps win games. To begin the 2023-24 campaign, the Coyotes have had a surplus of secondary scoring, and it’s been a monumental reason why they’re currently in a playoff spot.
Coyotes News & Rumors: Geekie, Keller & More
December 9 2023, 2023 Cooper Krigbaum
The Arizona Coyotes have been at the forefront of the news recently for a multitude of reasons. The latest arena announcement has social media buzzing, and the sweeping of the past five Stanley Cup champions also attracted national attention. Meanwhile, on the prospect side, 2022 first-round pick Conor Geekie has been on an absolute tear in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Clayton Keller has also been on pace to break Keith Tkachuk’s record of 86 points in a single season. Here are some further headlines for the Coyotes as the season parades on.
Keller faced uncertainty at the end of the 2021-22 season. He was about to embark on a journey few players have, especially in the NHL, which was rehabbing from a broken femur. The femur bone is the hardest to break and, as most have said, the most painful bone to break. Nobody had a good sentiment about what Keller would be like after rehab and what player he’d become. However, Keller knew what he’d be, and after tying Tkachuk’s record for most points in a single season, he is on track to do it all over again in 2023-24, perhaps even topping it.
Coyotes Are Winning Games Without Elite Players

Constructing a winning team in the NHL requires strong management and scouting department. There are ways to assemble a strong, competitive organization, including through the draft, free agency, and trades. However, some teams have been able to build from within and create a winning franchise. The Arizona Coyotes are trying to win from within.
The Coyotes acquired defensemen Matt Dumba and Sean Durzi and goaltender Connor Ingram to further that winning attitude. However, the home-grown talent will be a key part of this team into the future. Arizona is young but skilled enough to turn into a contender and centers around star forward Clayton Keller, who is 25 years old.
