15 Thoughts: Oilers vs Kings 2023-24 NHL Playoffs Round 1
Things to think about as the Oilers go into the series versus the Kings
As the Edmonton Oilers get set to battle the Los Angeles Kings in the first-round Western Conference Series, let’s take a look at the numerous storylines going into the series. This isn’t just about players like Connor McDavid, Anze Kopitar, Leon Draisaitl, and Drew Doughty.
Here are 15 pre-series thoughts.
This is the third straight season where the Oilers are battling the Kings. Edmonton has gone 2-0, the first year winning in seven games. Edmonton is stronger and Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are determined. They can’t do it alone.
One of the best things the Oilers can do is set the tone early. In the last regular season game, Evander Kane took a penalty on a massive hit to Drew Doughty. Some might argue a penalty is not wise, but no doubt the hit changed the game and the Oilers took LA out of it. The Oilers can’t sit back. They have to come out with something to prove, especially given the history of physicality between these two clubs.
